Students of Takoradi Technical University reject engineering certificate, says not genuine

Report from Takoradi Technical University (TTU) indicates that some students of the University (TTU) have refused to honor a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering certificates issued to them by TTU upon completion of the programme in 2020.

The prospective students say the Management of the Technical University have lied to them about the certificates being issued to them, consequently their decision to reject the Mechanical Engineering certificates.

The Argument

“Before we enrolled for the course in August 2018, the University told us they are in affiliation with the Cape Coast Technical University (CTU) and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, USA,” they said.

“But after completing the in July 2020 and graduation in October, TTU has issued us the certificates without any reference to CTU and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University,” they told Ghana News Agency.

Commenting on the incident, the spokesman for TTU said his outfit was running the programme in affiliation with CTU but later received accreditation last year to independently run the course.

Mr. Kow Richardson-Nketsiah said this gives the Takoradi Technical University the autonomous power to issue the engineering certificates to the students despite being enrolled before receiving the accreditation

“The Management of the Takoradi Technical University is ready to engage the students on the matter for further discussions,” he assured

Meanwhile, it is believed that the National Accreditation Board (NAB) revealed that NAB issued accreditation to the TTU on May 7, 2020, to run Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering (Production Option).

The accreditation certificate number -NAB/1AC/003187 takes effect from May 11, 2020 and expires on May 10, 2023.
