Some Students in Legon To Defer Course Due To Accommodation Crisis

Both freshers and continuing students in University of Ghana,  Legon have been  left stranded due to accommodation crisis on campus now a days.

Following this crisis, some students of University of Ghana,  Legon both freshers and continuing students have opted to defer their courses for a year to save them the struggle of getting rooms on campus.

The report was revealed by some students leaders of the University on TV3 New Day morning show to Berla Mundi.

They went further to declare to the morning show host, Berla Mundi that these students who are unable to access accommodation lack the financial capacity to rent rooms outside and hence afford the means to lectures and other academic activities.

According to the acting SRC president Naada Antwi, she and her team instructed them to go to places around like Okponglo, shiashie, Bawuleshie, Mariana, UPSA and look for hostels that are close and also negotiate with owners to reduce prices to accommodate students for the meantime while they try solve the accommodation crises on campus but despite negotiation with the owners,  the prices were still at a very high-end for them to afford.

“This is something that is beyond the SRC and we cannot do much about it. We are therefore calling on the government to interven and facilitate the building of the SRC hostels to bring to an end this persistent accommodation crisis”, she appealed.
