Latest Update On Saboba Sad Incident: GES to Discuss Sanctions On Teachers Who Use Students As Farm Labourers. “Possible Seizure Of License”

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Saboba District, Bingrini George, pertaining to the recent sad incident has indicated that the Security Committee of his District is set to meet the Ghana Education Service (GES) to discuss top issues concerning sanctions on teachers in the district who use their students as farm workers during contact hours and sometimes after school.

According to him, his commitee will see to it that the GES together with MoE will come out with a strict directive to sanction teachers who engage themselves in that act including possible seizure of their licence.

The call for this meeting has become necessary after the canoe disaster that claimed the lives of nine students of the St Charles Liwanga R/C Junior High school in the Saboba District of the Northern Region.

According to DEC, DISEC will also pursue the matter to ensure the headteacher is prosecuted.

“We have had incidents of students helping their teachers on their farms but they have never encountered this magnitude of students 31, moving to one far less to talk of crossing a river to help their headteacher harvest his rice, this is unacceptable,” he blurted.

At the moment, the headteacher has been arrested by the Police for further investigation into the matter.
