Teacher Unions in Ghana are set to declare strike on 5th July, 2022 over non-payment of Cost of Living Allowance for teachers.
This decision by the three teacher unions has come as a result of government’s failure to meet the demands of the teachers. Salary Payment Voucher for June, 2022 has confirmed that the government failed to pay teachers their cost of living allowance.
The three major teacher unions (The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concern Teachers Ghana (CCTGH ) earlier this month issued threats of embarking on indefinite strikes should government fail to pay the COLA to teachers by the end of 30th June 2022.
Below is the highlight from NEC meeting on the 17th June, 2022.
All Regional Chairmen are to organize press conference to press on the government to respond to our call on COLA. As a union we do not have any choice than to advise ourselves.
On the 5th July, 2022. there will be a joint press conference by teacher unions to declare a strike if government fails to meet our demands. We are urging all our institutional reps to make sure that every member will be part of the strike action looking at the economic hardship and challenges members are going through in recent times.
The following are the outline for the Regional conferences.
