The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has given the government by end of June this year to grant the 20% per cent Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for teachers or taste the wrath of over 240,000 teachers nationwide.
According to the general secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah Tanko, the current sluggish attitude of the government continues to affect the meagre earnings of workers.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with TV3’s Labour Correspondent Daniel Opoku in Accra, monitored by Honestynewsgh, he said the inability of the government to pay u our Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) has affected the basic necessities of life.
“Things are now very difficult. I have spoken about this thing and I have been compelled under the circumstances because our members have been calling day and night, there is an uneasy calm among the entre membership and there is the need for something to be done as soon as possible.
“Like I said, we are talking about the basic necessities of life, the issues of water, food shelter, clothing, ability to be able tp pay your daily expenses, things that will enable you live as a human being.”
