The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both School and Private candidates will be released by the end of July.
In an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com, Mr. John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, confirmed that preparations for the marking process are underway and that all efforts are being made to ensure the results are published within the scheduled timeline.
“We are about to commence the marking exercise. However, I can confidently say that the results will be released by the end of July,” Mr. Kapi stated during a discussion on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News.
He further commended the Council for its successful execution of the 2025 BECE, noting that candidates across the country were able to sit the exams under fair and well-organized conditions.
“From our end, we believe we delivered on our responsibility. We ensured that all necessary materials, including question papers and stationery, reached candidates, and they were given the opportunity to write the exams without major setbacks,” he added.
Despite the overall smooth conduct of the exams, the WAEC spokesperson acknowledged a few logistical hiccups. These included delays due to poor road conditions and a vehicle breakdown during the delivery of exam materials.
“There was an incident where a vehicle broke down during the delivery of exam questions, and in another case, rough terrain delayed access to one of the centres. But in both situations, backup vehicles were arranged, and the materials arrived on time for the subsequent papers,” Mr. Kapi explained.
BECE 2025 Candidate Statistics
This year’s BECE saw a total of 603,328 students participating in the school-based examination. These candidates came from 20,395 Junior High Schools across Ghana and comprised 297,250 boys and 306,078 girls.
For the BECE Private Candidates, WAEC recorded 1,661 participants, made up of 858 males and 803 females. These candidates sat their exams in 15 designated centres, primarily located in regional capitals.
Regional Distribution and Examination Centres
The Ashanti Region registered the highest number of candidates at 119,354, followed closely by the Greater Accra Region with 111,700 candidates, and the Central Region with 67,146 candidates.
WAEC coordinated the school exams at 2,237 centres nationwide. The Private BECE was conducted at 15 centres, strategically chosen in urban locations to accommodate the lower candidate turnout.
To maintain the integrity and orderliness of the examination process, the Council, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education (MoE), deployed a large monitoring workforce. This included 2,237 supervisors, 2,016 assistant supervisors, and 21,206 invigilators.
Examination Dates and Conduct
The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination for both School and Private candidates took place from Wednesday, June 11 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
