A final year student of the Nungua Kroma Two Junior High School (JHS) in Accra, together with 15 other men, on Monday, February 22,  assaulted a teacher for punishing him over failure to do his homework.

According to report, the  newly posted teacher to the school decided to discipline the boy for intentionally failing to do the class assignment. The teacher asked the boy to step forward for three lashes. After the first cane, the boy became annoyed, packed his books and left the school.


The student returned to the school in a Sprinter bus  with a gang of notorious guys from Nungua Zongo community. After alighting, the student pointed to the specific teacher who caned him. The gang heavily descended on the teacher and beat him mercilessly.

The teacher, Moses Onyameasem, was rescued by his colleagues and was rushed to the LEKMA Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.


After the attack, the mother of the student was also alleged to have besieged the school and rained insults on the teacher.

Following this incident, all the public Basic and Junior High Schools in the Nungua community have been closed down. They are expecting the government to take immediate action to arrest the form three Jhs student who is on the run.

On Tuesday, February 23, a joint stakeholder meeting comprising the Headmaster, teachers and students of the school was held over the incident.

At the meeting, DSP Afia Tenge said the police assured the teachers of adequate security in and around the school.

As a result, the teachers after the engagement, have agree to resume work next week Monday, March 1, 2021.
