GNAT Calls For Arrest Of students who assault teachers during WASSCE – Ghana National Association of Teachers

The Ghana National Association Of Teachers (GNAT) has called on authorities to arrest all students who instigate violence against members facilitating the ongoing WASSCE examination.

On Thursday, students of Bright Senior High school at Kukurantumi in the Eastern region attacked officials of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) supervising the ongoing exercise.

Again a journalist with the Daily Graphic who has gone to report was also assaulted by the students leaving him with severe injuries.

Adding to that, some final year students of the Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School in the Ashanti region were involved in a serious riot which ended up in the destruction of the school’s properties during the writing of the WASSCE integrated science paper.

Information gathered by HonestyNewsGh suggest that, one key reason behind this brutal vandalism is due to some  fact claimed by the students that, the past questions distributed by the government did not reflect in the final paper.

The GNAT president, Madam Philipa  Larson describes the rate of reports as unprecedented adding that, ” the fact that government has provided you with past questions doesn’t mean they will co.e and answer the questions for you”.

On that threats of attacks, Philipa Larson said it was criminal and called on the GES and Police to arrest perpetrators.

” I would want the GES and other security agencies to come in and arrest people they have to arrest because threats is also criminal. We will not sit down for our members to be threatened” she added.
