Exclusive: The Future Of Our Nation Depends Highly On STEM Edu Policy- Dr. Adutwum Explains- A must read by all teachers

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says the future of the nation depends on how we will prepare our children in terms of   giving them quality education and that is the implementation of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) policy.

He made this pronouncement during  one- on -one interview with Daniel Dadzie on Joy Prime, on the program called “on record” monitored by Honestynewsgh.

According to the minister, for a Nation like Ghana to be competing at the International world, we need to begin to look at how we prepare our children for the future.

  • A future of mental reality
  • A future of Artificial intelligence
  • A future of Internet awareness

“For our children to live in this technological industrial society, they need to have serious STEM skills to become game changers.

The STEM links itself to project base learning approach, active driven, result oriented and creativity directive roles. Memorisation does not have space in STEM” he said.

Implementation

When asked how it is going to be implemented, Dr Adutwum stated that the newly introduced curriculum by NaCCA which has been implemented by the Ghana Education Service links itself to curriculum driven, student centered in the classroom environment where the students are allowed to communicate their ideas.

This will help Ghana Education to run away from rote memorisation ( chew and poor) to a system where a student is able to authenticate his or her ideas and explain it to the teacher.

Teaching and learning will therefore be in the Singapore Approach, and that is from Concrete to Pictorial and to the Abstract way.

Available Resources- Teacher Training and TLMs

On this issue, the minister uncovered that a lot have been done already to ensure that the new curriculum is being taught well in our various schools.

“Facilities have been putting in place and about 20 are already under construction which are all STEM centered across the country.

Modern equipments have already arrived to fill the laboratories of these STEM schools. Teachers have also been taken to Israel for further training on the use of the newly introduced equipments” he added.
